does anyone have any ideas on how to lock a sled to an open trailer. to keep it there or at least make it difficult for someone to take. my girlfriend father just bought a new open trailer and wants me to help him find a way to lock the sled to the trailer. he suggested a eye through the deck i feel that some could easily pull it out of the deck and take the sled.

How about 3/8 aircraft cable with the plastic coating and crimped eyelets that will fit thru the rims and around between the suspensions to a big mother of a lock?

A high end gorilla cable with an appropriate weather tight lock thru a eye bolt on the trailer with the cable run thru the suspension around the track should be good. You will not keep the professional thief away but you will keep the casual thief away. Don't forget about a good trailer lock.

If a thief wants them they will just take the trailer. People lock the tongue to the ball but forget to use locking hitch pin. For true security a locking hitch pin is a must. Best thing to do is have fire and theft insurance.

There is only so much a person can do. If a thief wants it, they may be able to get it no matter what. Here are some other suggestions as well...

Trailer Lock w/Alarm for your tongue

This should prevent someone from taking your trailer off and stealing it with the sleds loaded up.

Superclamp II

The Superclamp II uses any type of padlock to keep someone from unlocking your tie down. I think this is a good preventative measure especially since not everyone is familiar with a superclamp. A thief would have to cut the lock off first which I think would be difficult depending on the type of lock you use.

As far as a lock goes, try this link Trailer Locks and look at the different locks we carry from WPS.

I made one out of square tubing. Slice it in half weld a good hinge to one side weld to tabs to the other. Put a padlock between the tabs. The whole assembly wraps around the tie down bars between the bolt and handle. Even if your trailer is locked you can loosen the nut that adjusts the fit to the ball and pop it off the ball.

The other idea I had was one of them u shaped locks for bicycles and passing it through a track window and a suspenion part.

Anything is just going to slow somebody down that really wants them.

the hard core sled theives aren't in our area yet. he's thinking he just wants to slow them down or make it difficult enough that they wont bother
