96 Vmax just pulled the carbs out pulled the bowls off and there is a little bit of brown covering about half of the surface. wipes right off. is this a concern or normal to see. also where do you disconnect the choke cable at

I just removed mine also today for first time

what I did with the choke cable, was open the choke fully, and take nut right off of the carb, just unscrew it...should be one on each carb, make sure that you open the choke first to keep the plunger on the end of it....wasnt bad at all...But I wasnt able to take out the screws, as the last person stripped them, so i couldnt remove the bowls...I did remove the big nut under the bowl, and shined flashlight in there, and it looked clean....... the gas that leaked out,was a darker color, but I imagine thats because its mixed with oil at that point..at least I think it is..Pete

yeah i missed the post you had on the cables. my screws weren't stripped. just wondering if the brown color was nomal. everything else looked clean

will clean for sure. Is there a way to prime the carbs when I put them back on or just keep pulling until it starts. I took about 15 pulls.

I usualy will pull it over with the carbs out about about 5 or 6 times to get the gas back up the fuel lines and the old crap out (you can also see if theres any crap in the lines at that point. (normally this is before i have started the sled for the season).

Then i hook the lines up full choke and pull about 4-6 times with the ignition off. Turn the key and pull 1 or 2 times and she will usualy come to life.

getting gas back in the carbs

i usually sparay some starting fuel down the cylinders after cleaning carbs starts right away and use the fuel pump to get gas back in the bowls rather than pull 15 times
