My sled has now 18,000km's on it and is running great. Only work ever done general mainanence and clutch work every 2nd year.
Should I be concerned about crank seals or anything or just keep going.
Any idea how many km's these go for untill rebuild or worse?
All my friends sleds (not Yamaha's) blow up regulary after 3-5K?

you mean to say your engine is still all original..wow.I have a SXR600 going on 11,000 km's and seems to be bullet proof.Good to hear.Yeah my cousin blew up his Cat Motor and clutches more then once. What is your compression on the 600 with that many km's by the way???

welcome to the site.......

Yamaha's are known for there reliability and looong lasting, untouched i've seen many triples go 10-12,000 miles and more with no problem at
all....BUT...the loss in performance and chance of failure increases with that kind of mileage.

that sled should have new rings and pistons checked for max wear
limit ASAP,waaay over do, new rings/pistons(if needed) and she'll be
back at tip top performace.

probably not a bad idea for new seals too,,do all that and you'll get many
many more seasons out it..

daman.it is amazing to hear these stories..eh!!!!I should do my rings next year, but never rally attempted that kind of work before.Afraid I will screw up something and make it worse.

Just had the compression checked and 120 on all three.
Forgot to mention I am on my second track. Put a 1.5 ripsaw on at 13250km's!
I store it inside non heated and only gripe would be finicky hot starting. always have to slightly open throttle when pulling!
Other than that it goes great and I keep up w/ the rest.

I knew that was coming.....

compression test tells NOTHING about the true health of a 2 stroke motor, yes it will build comp but holding that comp with minimum blow by is another story especially if it's had a diet of conventional oil all it's life,u can count on you have blow by contaminating the fresh incoming air charge and losing performance.

she needs rings my friend if you want top performance back and drop the
risk of piston skirt failure,,take it for what it's worth..
