well i was ridding this weekend down a pipeline with my buddys doin about 85-90 and i bottomed out. then we were headin back nd the temp light came on on my sled. so i shut it off and looked underneath at my sled andi put a hole in my front heat exchanger. how bad is it to change and if possible ccan i bypass it??

how big is the hole? if its like a 1/4 inch it can probably be welded. you cant by pass it. you will need another one if it cant be welded. i believe you have to take the motor out to get to some of the rivets.

its only a little hole in it. i have these low temp aluminum repair rods that im gonna try. i really dont want to have to tear the whole sled apart just to change a stupid heat exchanger.

Like swmichsx said how big???

you'll need to pull the skid and front axle then take it to a good welding shop glue her shut...

you will probably have to take the suspension and drive axle out, so a guy could get at it and possibly weld it. most likely, the anti-freeze and dirt on the heat exchanger will contaminate the tig weld and you will end up needing to get a new one or good used one. try cleaning the heat exchanger real good w/stainless wire brush and acetone. if the welding doesn't work, then you are probably looking at pulling the engine out, airbox out, pipes, and carbs out. it can turn into a big job in a hurry.

i have a tig welder and i can weld pretty good so i guess i will try to do that the hole is very small only like a pencil eraser or so. thats how i put the hole in it im gussin when i bottomed out 1 of the studs hit it and tor it open casue there is scraps all the way down it but only 1 hole.

you need to drain all the coolant , blow it out with compressed air and heat it with a propane torch or an acetylene torch ( no oxygen) to burn off all the contaminates or it wont hold. trust me i have been welding AL for 20 years.

If it's a small hole we got a new product. It is made for use on plastic and aluminum you put the ground up plastic or aluminum powder in the hole and drop three or four drops of the special superglue, and with in seconds this stuff is fixed and solid as a rock!! You wouldn't believe this product unless you saw it with your own eye's! I was totally impressed with this product ;)! We got it from our supplier B&L AUTO PARTS.

I have had excellant result using the low temp aluminum weld rod. You will have to remove the complete skid, drive axle and track to repair. clean all area, VERY well. This type of welding is like brazing, since the area is not a structurally sensitive area, aluma-braze will work great. Remember all coolant must be removed or any type of welding will be contaminated. good luck Al
