i want to replace all then fuel and oil lines on my 95 v-max. was doing some cleaning under the hood and noticed they are stiff and brittle . was wondering if anyone know what size hoses i need , it looks like there are two diffrent size fuel hoses and two diffrent size oil lines. somebody know what size they are ? are they special hose or can i just use hardware store hose ?

Yamaha is all metric. Best to use Tygon hose or the next best thing would be the pink fuel line that you can get at sled shops. The tygon is yellow and a little pricey but I don't think it will ever harden. Something like 5 mm and 8mm ring a bell but not for sure.

The white or clear fuel line that is sold at some automotive shops is garbage. It will harden before the season is over. I have 300 ft in 3 different sizes that I bought from Royal Distibuting. I keep it in a warm garage and use it in nice little short peices that I put over finishing nails when I hang something that I don't want scratched. Thats the only use I have found for it so far.

thanks , was checkin dennis kirk but they only listed standard and i figured it was metric hose , but didnt know the sizes.i was holding the cheap stuff in my hands and figured for .38 cents a foot it couldnt be to good , and i only want to do this once so i dont mind spendin whatever for the right hose. would rather spend extra now than pay later on the trail.

go to the yamaha catalog and get the part number for the fuel line and for the oil line ....i was told you olny have to order one cause they give enough to do all the fuel or oil lines ......the problem with other brand of line is the clamps dont squeeze tight .....i think it is thinner wall line or something .......

wow , yamaha list eight diffrent part numbers for all the oil/fuel hoses , but i know there is at least three diffrent size hoses. but thats the way to go i guess to make sure its the right size.

i thought you could by it by the foot in a catalog.wish yamaha just sold each size by the foot at the dealership!cost an arm and a leg to replace by individual part#!

off topic: hey ramblnman how bout some pics of the chevy in the garage : back on topic.

even dennis kirk only list standard size hose. cant seem to find metric anywhere.

The only hose I have had success with in my many years of replacing oil and gas lines is the blue urethane hose. I believe it is made by Lemans. there are many places that stock it, i believe Dennis Kirk has it, I know Parts Unlimited has it also. I thnk i saw it last week in the Hi Performance Engineering's catalog. I have tried the more expensive Tygon yellow tubing and found it hardens also in a couple of years time. Don't use a garden variety plastic hose from the hardware store, it will harden and crack quickly. Urethane or polyurethane hoses last a long time. I've tested a lot of hose compositions by putting samples in my gas cans for months at a time then measuring them for swelling and hardness. The urethane/ polyurethane hoses are by far the best. I have a piece of polyurethane hose on the pump which I use to transfer fuel. It is over 5 years old and still as flexible as the day I installed it. Call kevin at Port yamaha, he probably stocks it, most bike/sled dealers in my area have it.
