Went riding in Grayling / Gaylord area over the weekend and noticed my stock 03 viper is running at 9K rpm topped out. What is recommended to get it back down to around 8600 rpm?? If I remember correctly 8600 rpm is where it should be, right?? Any and all help is greatly appreciated. -Ed

When my 02 started overreving, I installed a 4.5 gram rivet in the tip . Brought revs down to 8600-8700. I also replaced the straight 47 helix and red spring with a 51/43 helix and a green spring. Ran very strong with this setup.

TURK HAS SPOKEN LOL! Must have been typing while you were posting Turk. Your setup worked GREAT in my ol' red beast!!

This helix and spring change was on the secondary, correct?? -Ed

Primary spring may also be weak. NOT!!!

Duh, reread my post and realized it was meant for a different thread, different problem.

A weak primary spring will actually allow it to shift too fast and bog.

Looking for 4.5 gram rivets, new weights and rollers for the primary as well as a 51/43 helix and green spring for the secondary. Where is the best place to purchase these items from?? I have started a thread on Richmotorsports "preferred vendors" section but he has not replied to me. I am looking to get these parts ASAP so I can get it together before my next ride. Any Information is greatly appreciated. Thanks, -Ed

Guys I also have an 03 viper ER and would like to know if that set up would work for my sled? I ride groomed trails in Ma and NH and would like to have a good clutch set up for the trails. My sled is all stock with 96 down the middle on the track. Besides the tip weight and the spring is there anything else I should do?

Thanks
Pup

don't try to order 4.5 gram rivets from Yamaha. tomorrow will be day 9 on back order. what a bunch of BS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i knew i should have went elsewhere.

I just did a ton of research on the site for my clutch setup. I want a simple but good setup for the trail and everything I read goes to the 53/43 helix with a green spring. If my sled is not over reving should I stick with the stock weights in the primary or should I change them to the 4.5g at the tip. Also could you tell me where or what company I should by the helix from and the weights? Should I go through Yamaha for the spring and weights, not sure need some help.

If you are not over-reving then i woud guess someone has already changed the rivets. ( or your tach is way off )

Contact Rich motorsports ( vender here ) for your helix and spring and see what he has.

You can also check the classifieds, there was someone selling a bunch of new helix there.

I just bought the sled this year and I have not gone out yet to see if it is over reving. I would like to get a nice setup for trail riding.

Well, I have just ordered the helix from Ulmer Racing. I asked for a 51/43 Dalton but he recommended a 48/40 by Advant-Edge Motorsports. He told me it was basicly the same helix (shifts the same) but the different manufactures labeled them differently and the cost was about $50 cheaper. Now I am looking for a green secondary spring but when looking up the part numbers they list 2 numbers for the secondary spring but have no color I.D. The part numbers are as follows: 90508-536A9-00 and 90508-556A2-00. I believe the second part number (90508-556A2-00) is for the green spring but I'm not for sure. Can someone confirm that is the correct part number or provide the correct part number for me. Also looking for the 4.5 gram rivets for the tip of the weights on the primary clutch, any idea where I can get 3 of these?? All help is greatly appreciated as usual. LET'S RIDE!!! -Ed
