I have a 97 500 xt and it seems that the clutches are not downshifting. The rpm's remain fairly low like around 5000 and there is no response at all. It feels like it's stuck in too tall of a gear. When you pin it the rpms slowly come up to 7700 or so. Could this just be dirty clutches? They haven't been cleaned in a couple of years. I just want to have an idea before i work on it.

this could be a few things....a bushing...spring that is binding...can you put the sled on a stand and hit the throttle and look at what the clutches do

I'll check that tomorrow morning and report back.

I took a look at the primary clutch today and noticed that one roller was worn really bad and it wouldn't turn. I think this might be the problem. What are good replacement rollers to get?

the roller is a problem if it wont roll...allthough i dont think that will be the only problem. As for the rollers...you have to get OEM..Yamaha only.

Alright well i will replace that roller and i'm also going to order a clutch rebuild kit. There's about 15 000 km on it so it's probably due.
