Apparently they first year or so of the twin spar chassis was poor handling. As of last year they fixed all of those issues according to the sled mags, and the snowmobile shows I have seen on TV.
Last year was the first for the jag, 1100 twin 4 stroke. To be honest I hear only really good things about those sleds. And we all know how much I don't like cats.
Of any cat sled I would get, I would take a turbo, or non turbo 1100 four stroke jaguar.

Make sure you have a camera handy so you can document each time he's on the end of a tow rope

I know we're talking about the Jag, but the F7 fire cat used to be a sled I really liked the looks of. I saw one in person and the fit and finish is horrible. The seat on that thing looked like it was off of a toy. Yamaha knows how to make a high quality product.

The new f series is worse from a fit and finish standpoint just a plastic nightmare the engines seem to stay together. But I really love my 2 stroke triple I just wish the yami gods would do another run at the srx say maybe in a 800 triple I would buy two and put one away just wishfull thinking .akrievins said:I know we're talking about the Jag, but the F7 fire cat used to be a sled I really liked the looks of. i agree Yamaha needs to bring back the 2 stroke. without the power valves. more than enough technology out there .you should not need those. besides that tooo much time cleaning and adjusting them. yamaha should make a 2 stroke with valves just like my stihl leaf blower or weed eater , i cant remember witch.
????
The shows and mags might like the sled but lets be honest........its still an artic-crap. You should make a deal with him to pay for all the gas you will waste when towing him. You might also want to get another set of tow cables.....your going to wear out the first set. Why would he get rid of such a nice sled? He must be going nuts. Just my 2 cents.

that's what i always thought too! hmmmmm, reliability or light weight.....hmmmmm........its a no brainer.
Let your buddy know that those Jags are A P.O.S! Arctic cat can't even give those machines away. They are way slower than his Viper! They are not as good on fuel as a Yami 4 stroke! For god sakes Arctic Cat did'nt even put paint on there hoods! It's just black plastic! I guess it there way of saving weight! My buddy has one and we bust his balls by telling him they used an ATV engine in those machines. He really hates that one! Now the new turbo Jag might be a whole different story. I still just can't get to like the looks of those newer Cats. Oh well... I kinda prefer that not everybody rides a Yamaha as it's more fun to beat and tease other brands this way!

My guess is his mind is made up. So what you should do is buy his Viper for same price or higher then what the dealer is giving him. Probably not much and you would get a great deal to replace your 1997 sx 700 exciter.
