I have an '02 SRX and lately i have the temp light flashing at me when riding.
Its a steady flash and starts pretty much right after the temp and DCS light stop flashing together. I know the motor is not too hot when it starts flashing. Just wondering what this means and how to take care of it.
Thanks

Try to get the sequence of flashes that way it can be diagnosed.By sequence I mean there will be flashes in a series like 3 long and 1 short or 5 long and 2 short, you get the idea.Write them down and post them and someone will surely be able to help you out.If I'm not mistaken there is a section in the tech pages with these diagnostic codes and what they mean so you should be able to look it up yourself.Hope this helps.

it is not the dcs light that is flashing. its the water temp light. i know the water temp isnt that high to be a warning. i always run fresh 91 or 92 octane in it

Just speculating here but when was the last time you had the PV system apart to clean the valves? You may have a stuck one or a pull through or perhaps your cooling system has developed an air bubble somewhere and not allowing the coolant to circulate. You stated that you don't think the engine is running hot but it may be and it could possibly be the cause of the flashing temp light.

so is it on 1 second of one second and so on, count how many times it does it before a long break. Maxdlx

just cleaned and adjusted the power valves last spring. only about 200 miles on sled since then. as for an air bubble in the coolant, i don't think that is the case. when the sled is warm, i've checked all the hoses and coolers around the sled and they are all about the same temp. So i think that circulation is good. thanks for the ideas though 4barrel

it is signaling an overheat situation if they are fast steady blinks, may have a frayed wire to temp sensor or a defective water temp sensor.i would check the wires to the sensor then if nothing found, test the sensor.

it blinks on for about a half second of so then is off for about a 1-1/2 seconds. i will check into the wiring though.

Sounds like the one for the hand-warmers? My guess from looking at the codes closest to what he describes. Are your grips still working?

Discontinuity of the variable resistor(grip warmer) is detected.

You might be right topgunnsrx. I replaced my handwarmers with some aftermarkets. they get a little warm but not hot. i just thought that the new ones weren't as good as the stock ones. any thoughts as to check if my variable resistor is still good. I get the same resistance reading from both handwarmers.
