What is the dimension that the upper link on the reverse shifter needs to be set at for a 2000 VMAX 700? I have 1 sled that doesn't like to stay in reverse and would like to check the link settings, but my clymers manual lacks anything about adjusting the linkage.

Well the joint rod length is 140mm or 5.51 inches. The shift rod does not have a length adjustment in the Yamaha manual I am looking but says that it should have zero end play then backed off a 1/4 turn.

They specify a length on the lower Joint Rod? I saw the RX1 install and they specify a 27 mm length on the upper rod, so I figured they would specify the length of the same one on all the sleds with reverse. The 27mm on the VMAX however was too long. I could not adjust it to that spec. I'll try the 140mm on the lower and see if that works.
Is that the dimension inside of the lock nuts? The exposed rod length?
Thanks,
Mike

I finally found it after you mentioned Joint Rod. I searched with that in the search string and found this article.

Yes that is the correct tech article. Looks very similar to the ones in my service manual.
I think that is the last thing I would really like to put on my Vmax. I envy you.

I have a 2000 VMAX 700 Deluxe with Electric Start and Reverse (My Wife's Sled) and a 2000 VMAX 700 with reverse (My Sled) and a 1995 VMAX-4 800 (No reverse on the beast). Reverse is definitely nice for unloading and shuffling out of tight areas, turning around in a driveway, etc. It's also nice for loading, when you need to get a little running start and you don't quite make it up the trailer on the first try. I know I need to get better traction mats on my trailer!
