Just picked up a 9? 570 exciter with twin psi's, a comet 108 exp and a inch and a quarter brand new kimpex track for 200 bux, but have some issues with it and a few questions, first off how do I tell what year and model it is? I couldn't find a data plate with a date, im not sure if its an exciter 1 or 2 all I know is its a 570,
the carbs are off it and the guy cut all the lines, and I don't have a clue what goes where, I've never seen a set of carbs with so much crap on them haha, also do I need to hook up the decompression valves? With a primer and choke I couldn't see ever having to use them, last off the sled didn't come with a suspension, what years and models skids will bolt up, and does anyone have any measurements for any other brand of skid, I come across a lot more polaris and car skids than I do yamaha, well thanks in advance for all the advice, hopefully ill have this thing on the snow shortly

the first 3 number/letter in the vin# determines the year decompression plugs were on the 87 model i know. vin# starts 82m-. post yours and i or someone else can tell you what year you have.some of the lines are coolant lines as these carbs were heated to prevent frosting up in powder conditions.you do not have to hook up decompression plugs but you need to make sure you prevent them from leaking. bender used to sell a kit but you can buy a couple bolts and seal the threads with epoxy

How long of a bolt do I used to get rid of the decompression valves, id also like to get rid of the oil injection, can I do this without some sort of kit?

When looking at the carb from the air box side there's a big round thing sticking out, what in the world is that?

I think you're looking at the early "TORS" system carb switch. Can easily be by-passed.
On my Exciter I just cut off the wires to the Thors (90). If you want the fuel line layout, go to Port Yamaha (a sponser here) and look up a 90 Exciter. If you check thru the sections you will find a layout for the fuel lines. I used this when I did mine last week. I used 1/4" line from the shut off valve to the fuel pump. From the tank to the shut off valve I used 5/16" line. From the pump to the carbs you have to use 3/16" lines or you'll have gas going everywhere! (like I did). Also I put a filter in-line (these things are 20 years old).
Prepare for a lot of swearing! You have to remove the seat, tank cover, and side panels. Most of the screws were rusted! Have a set of vise grips on hand to work them out. I anti-seized everything going back together.
For a suspension we put one in from a Vmax 600, it worked great on this sled (you have to cut it down a little. Just make sure that whatever you use, you get the measuirements off the donor sled to make sure it goes in without binding in use.
Good Luck, John.
