Ok I am new to this site but I have tried to poor through all the info on here about clutching and I just wanted to make sure the clutching guys on here agree with what I'm going to do and what my machine is being used for. I do 75% trail riding and 20% 500 foot radar runs and possibly a few 1000 foot runs this year. this is in a 2000 srx700 I am going to use my stock 8dn-20 weights and change inner rivet to 4.5 grams with a w-w-w primary spring then I am putting a RX1 51/43 helix in the secondary with a green spring at either 60 or 70 degrees wrap. I want it to pull really hard but still be a trailable setup. I was thinking about lowering my top sprocket one tooth also.

Turk if your out there I here you are the clutch GOD on Yamahas can you chime in and tell me what you think about this setup.

I have used the 51/43 and found the motor will over-rev with it. I since have gone back to 47 straight helix myself.Got 8DN-20's,15.6 rollers, w-w-w primary..4.5 inner and 5.4 outer(4.5 rivets with 2 washers installed and peened over),Secondary green spring at 70.My rpm's are basically right on. If you are over-reving use a softer secondary spring or less wrap. You have to test...test..test..keeping notes to on every change you make along the way. Using the w-w-w primary will bring engagement down a bit.
For me anyways with the setup I have now...launches to about the 8200 rpm mark and pulls hard as it climbs up to desired 8500.Only thing is I can't find a spot this year to open the SRX on a long straightaway. Really find the setup snappy.I know I can pull the ski's of the snow at launch and have to hang on because sleds pulls like a raped ape..lol. I have my transfer set for 50/50 and with the 1" Predator track she will haul good.If I had studs it would probably flip the sled over.Been there done that with studs..was raising the ski's 3 feet in the air.Looks cool but doesn't help me on a speed run. Goto love the SRX!!!

you can check after doing some hard runs what your clutch temps are,if one clutch is hotter..then belt is slipping.Mine after doing about 10 straight hard launches...my clutches are cool to the touch..which is great for the belt.

setting up the rear suspension to make hard launches what to do and how do you do it? I would only want it that way for radar runs. right now it rides nice on the trail and steers good and I have read that if you set it up for hard launches you loose alot of ski pressure which makes it harder to turn on the trails

I was told to get a hard launch to loosen the limiter straps all the way out and tighten the front suspension spring. what else to do??

tighten limiter straps up to change approach angle...thus your ski's will stay down more, maybe to much.Adjust your transfer rods for no transfer then.Mine is set at 50/50 transfer and works good

that sounds backwards. thats sound like for better trail riding and steering. I want hard launching for radar runs

I think what blue is trying to say is for racing-- you want to keep your track on the ground -level- you do not want to much transfer, with straps all the way loose will give you to much.. just enough to make the skis lite.

You can't have both, to have an excellent drag or speed run set up it will be a terrible trail set up. The set up that you have listed above is a good all around set up. If it over rev's a bit, add a gram or two washer to the tip. Tighten your limiter straps up, you want as much track on the ground as possible. Get a set of adjustable transfer rods, this is were you will get your transfer. The ski's should only be about 3-4 inches off the snow at take off, you want the sled to move forward not up.

ok thanks guys I figured if I loosened the straps all the way it would hook harder. I will try setting them somewhere in the middle to see how it hooks up.

going to a radar run next weekend on 1000 ft of ice but the 500 ft radar runs I do are usually crappy loose snow and dirt take off areas to a groomed snow pack track
