i took my chaincase back on lastnight and i took notice that my top gear was 23 tooth. its suppost to be 21 on the viper mtns. i have a chance to get a 68 link chain and a 20 tooth top gear from a 04 venture 600. what would my viper be like with 20-40 gears over what i have now 23-40?
with the 23 and 8 tooth drivers (mtn) you are right around a 1.96 ratio.
With the 20 you will be 2.26. So it will pull harder out of the hole and run out of legs a little quicker on the top end. Up to you.

well im real into climbing so i think20-40 would be best for me!
the 2:26 ratio would also be easier on the belt(cooler temps) as the gear will now take more of the load.

out of the venture they aint hyvo gears and chain like the viper

yes they are i looked it up and its on the viper now. the chain is hyvo like my viper. its a 04 venture 600 that i got the chain and gear from. u can look it up in the tech pages yourself if you want! i knowsi am right on this one!

take it easy! stop using so many damn exclamation marks! you are right, i didnt know that they put they hyvo into the ventures, i figured they didnt switch to hyvo since they used the regular one in them back when they first came out. either way they would fit and work, just hyvo is better.
