what do you wear when its COLD!

The key is layering, I like to start with some kind of a moisture wicking long under wear as a base layer and go from there. Its something you'll have to experiment with for your personal comfort level.I have a leather suit and have for the last 12 seasons and its super warm in cold weather and I layer accordingly for the temperature.

I'd second Shortstop20's recommendations.

Multiple thinner layers are better than few thick ones as well.

I will 3rd that.

It's best to stay away from cotton though, as when it gets wet, it makes your body waste energy to try to stay warm.

I live in canada and when it gets cold the temp here is -30c to -40c so what i wear is as follows: a long sleeved turtle neck, long sleeved fleece sweat shirt and my ckx doubled layered jacket. As for the legs I wear fleece long johns, jeans (just cause I like them) and my ckx snow pants. Like others have said wear layers and lots of them. If you get to hot take some off. You dont want to sweat cause if you do you will freeze or get a chill that will be hard to get rid of untill you dry off. Happy riding

:brr

When its -15F i suit up wearing a t-shirt then my bibs...and then my Yamaha by reima coat with goretex...thats it...no layers at all

I'm similar to SXlover - all I ever wear is a sweatshirt with bibs and then the yamaha team 3/4 jacket. Never been cold yet, and I've only worn it with the liner once. I really like that jacket. Went riding in -20 F this morning, and Monday I was out in -50 windchill. It's keeping my face warm that's the problem.

I will have to agree with the Under Armour cold gear I swear by it then a nice hoody sweatshirt then my FXR Cold Cross pullover and thats it and Ive raced and trail rode with this setup from -25F up and never once been cold and for the bottom I have always just worn jeans and my Cold Cross pullover pants with no Insulation and been fine

All i ever wear is a long sleeve shirt, my tek vest , and jacket. The tek vest really blocks any wind getting through. Long underwear ,jeans and bibs on bottom. Never get cold. My problem is keeping my feet, hands, and face warm though. I guess the lil srx windscreen doesnt do much...lol

i wear moisture wicking long johns and moisture wicking long sleve shirt, fleece jacket, klim bibs and klim jacket and im warm and dry

Sure but the other popular fabric out there for garments is Polyster. That doesn't even absorb much and when it does it doesn't evaporate. Brings on the stink after the days ride. :)

I have one of each so I'm not bashing. For flat land ridding I find if you have warm enough layers it doesn't matter much for garments. We don't move much to have excessive sweat.

When colder then -18C, I like to add a vest insulated with 100g PrimaLoft to wear under a fleece. Lighter and thinner than another fleece vest and very compact. I bring it everywhere just in case.

I won a bet last night, for running around the outside of the cabin naked in 0*f. The front was fine, plowed lot but the back was about thigh deep. Didn't have to pay for any fuel. lol.

i am like shortstop when i wear my cheap bibs. with the leather bibs, just a set of fleece pants or flannel pants are fine. my problem at that temp is usually my chin. got frostbite there last season because i forgot my bellaclava at home. now i make shure i have it with me.

Some times i go out without a shirt or pants on and just keep my briefs on, a couple times a year i do that. its usually about 15 deg F out when i do the 50 mile trip. Dont really feel cold ever. not even kidding. its a crowd pleaser and i'm the only one "dumb enough" to do it, but i don't consider my self dumb, i find it funny. get some wierd looks. the worst part about doing it is the back draft behind ya where the snow accumulates on your back.

Last Thursday and Friday in central wisconsin it was around -30 to -40 degrees. School was canceled for both days and Monday was off also. We went snowmobiling both days on some of the best trails i have seen in the area. Groomer had gone through earlier and our group of 3 guys were the first ones on the trails. We did aroung 100 miles on Thursday and 150 on Friday. Not much but it was fun. As for warmth i was fine. I have a full face modular helmet that is super warm and a snowmobiling jacket and bibs. Under that i wore long underwear and insulated sweatpants for the bottom. On top was a longsleeved turtle neck underarmor and a long sleeve t shirt with a real light sweatshirt. For your feet you should invest in smart wool socks because they are amazing ! Dont hesitate on going out in the cold. Just make sure all skin is covered and you'll be fine. Heated hand grips on your sled is also a lifesaver.

I wear the same stuff no matter what the temp.

Under: jeans, a long sleeve shirt and normal socks.
Over: boots, bib, choko warden jacket, a neck warmer, gloves and a helmet.

If it's COLD like you said 0*F... I might zip the pants and jacket up all the way. Canada eh!

Otherwise they are usually open a bit to allow some air circulation. If it's above 23*F, the jacket is usually totally unzipped , I ditch the neck warmer and wear those thin mechanic gloves.
