About 10 years ago we did a circle tour of the U.P. leaving out of Brimley for a week. We woke up in Munising to -38. We waited 'til after breakfast and by then it was -27. My retired buddies all had "block heaters" on thier Doos but my XCR was surprisingly easy to start without one.
Open fields and railroad grades weren't much fun and if we didn't have reservations at the next stop we might not have continued. Lot's of whining from the geriatric crowd but we survived.
At one point we had to ride across a bay for about three miles. We stopped on the other side and my buddy with glasses had two white streaks under his eyes from the metal rims of his glasses (full face sheild but cracked open to keep the shield from fogging).
Of course the only Cat in the group burned down (EFI - ZR no less) and he had to ride the XLT we brought along in our chace vehicle. Another buddy missed a corner and hit a tree with his Storm near Sidnaw (fogged up shield), but other than that is was a great ride.
Agreed, NO exposed skin.

The colder the day, the nicer the hot tub feels at the end.
