does anyone know, if 96 vmax(factory specs) can be run below zero? as far as I know, the jetting never changed on this sled(but I could be wrong)... Im going on a ride tomorrow night, and temps here in NY supposed to be around 15 - 20 below...is this too cold for a snowmobile? I guess this may be a dumb question, but I keep reading on how you need to change your specs if you run in cold weather... Its only supposed to be below zero for the next week max, and I dont want to go thru the trouble of upgrading stuff, esp, when I cant do on my own....I imagine my sled runs alittle rich as it smokes like son of a gun when I first start it up,(once again, no idea what im talking about so maybe that doesnt means anything).. but figure, if im running rich, then colder it gets, leaner it runs...... ok sorry about stupid post. I guess I should just ride and stop worriying about so many things...LOL..thanks again, Pete

dont worry your self to death, lol.i ride mine in sub zero temps all the time with no ill affects other than to me maybe.you ott to try riding at -48 now thats cold ,didnt stay out for very long but the old moto-ski gps screamed.

we used to ride in -30 F when we were younger without any problems..except our visors fogging up.I remember seeing guys last year riding buy my house on a -50 windchill day also.My buddy rides in the coldest weather and tells me the colder the better.

Its gonna run like it has a ton more power but actually it is going to be running lean just do like the other guys said don't hold it wide open very long and don't ride it really hard and you should be fine

OH...& make sure that ya keep "little jimmie & the twins" warm too.

Hate to have too much shrinkage like George in Seinfeld... ya know, the little guys like to "suck up" when its really cold out!! LOL !! :bump:

Frozen balls can hurt!!

i never open it up

I dont ride the sled hard anyways, most I ever do is 40ish.. I never open it up..

If you look at the pecs, I bet stock it is jetted to be safe down to -30 or so real temp, not wind chill.

RUN it, but keep warm, little jimmy and all as well.;)

btw, they ALWAYS run best right before they blow up :)

Ain't that true! Last year, last ride with my brothers, my older bro, pulls up along side us at the first stop, and says "Man, I can't believe sweet this thing is runnin' today! At the next lake he stops, motions us to listen, and says, "Hey guys, what do suppose that's from?" He had a definite tick going on. We poured alittle oil in each cylinder, pulled it over with plugs out to lube it alittle more, than added some to his tank. We had a ways to go yet, but were over half-way on the lope we were making. He made it to within 20 miles of home before he had sparks shooting out past his left foot. We towed him home, that was it for his season. That was in Feb.

Yep keep the flipper off the bar and you will be alright. If you are jetted stock more then likely you will be perfect. It was -15 here today looks like thats headed your guys way.

I was kinda scared this week... Ive rejetted to 142.5 mains across, and reset needles. Put my needles back to factory, but left mains. Ran it in sub-zero, varied throttle, no wfo runs... no problems, and ran HARD. Temp in Pellston Wed night was -22... first time I ever went out that cold, but we had to get home and had a couple sleds go down, so we burnt time.

Anyway, factory jetting should be more than fine.

you should be allright just remember how cold it is and ride accordingly my 97 sx 700 always ran great at 0 - 10 below w factory jetting . i will be taking it out today as it is zero out right now

what is WFO runs?

what does that term mean? thanks for the advice... went out last night minus 15 when I went last night. put around 30 miles on it, and it ran great, hit the lake a couple times, but didnt keep it opened up, got it up to 60mph but then let lightened up on the throttle, I usually dont ride fast anyways, so hopefully I will avoid burndown anyways.. 95% of the time im doing 20 mph on a trail... also, I read that the gas milaige was bad in this sled, but I didnt think this BAD!!!!!! filled up last night, and put 30 miles on it, and I have just over half tank left..... is that normal? i figure I may get 70-75 miles out of a full tankfull, im gonna run it till empty and see, but generaly how much will a 600 vmax get out of a tank, if factory specked? thanks, Pete

Hi Pete, WFO(wide f**k'en open) or WOT(wide open throttle)is short tems
for us lazy to type people,..

your '96 vm was not known for great mileage at best your looking at 10mpg
but with tunning(jetting, clutching, track adjusting, etc, etc)you can get it
a little better..there great sleds just a little hard on gas and oil...
