I have an '01 drag sled set up with a 780 kit, bender pipes, v-force reeds 8 tooth drivers...
This sled is crazy fast from 0-106mph in 660' and seems to get to this speed in 400' then just wont go any faster.
Issue: In 1000', the best time has been 112mph and again not wanting to run out any faster.
I currently am running a 54/44 helix-Blk spring at (6) with 22/39 gears. I have tried numerous gear combinations with not much gain.
I am convinced that this is all clucthing problems. The primary has been dialed in with this set up to run at 8600rpms for what Bender said to run with the pipes.
I have other Helix's ranging from a 50/38, Yamaha 8BV50, Yamaha 8BV51, and some other stamped 7MS0??
Any suggestions as to where I should begin would be very helpfull. Thanks

what rpm are you at when doing 112mph? just my opinion but i don't think you have enuf gear in it to go any faster with 8 tooth drivers. what other gears have you tryed?

I am running right at 8600 rpm and it holds there pretty accurately. As for the gearing changes, I have gone up and down both ways a few teeth at a time with very close results with each. I even tried stock gearing with the same result. Thats why I have been thinking about the secondary clutch not getting pushed out all the way.
This sled has basically been gutted and has a whal bros suspension in it (very light) and with the power of this motor I can see why it just wont break the 120mph barrier.

what secondary spring are ya useing? all the yammy springs are blk but have a small paint mark on them (red, green or silver) most common. also have you tried going a bit richer on the mains the 780's seem to really like the fuel on top end?

I THINK YOUR RUNNING TOO HIGH RPM. ANOTHER WORDS YOUR CLUTCHING OVER REVING. 3:16 (yammie tony)

It has a black spring with the smallest little dot of light blue paint on it. It does not look like the typical color marking on springs. As for jetting...its pretty rich already.
Like I said ^, it instantly gets to that top speed and just hangs there without any further acceleration.

just to let you know, both of these helixs (Yamaha 8BV50, Yamaha 8BV51) are the same (straight 45 deg). the one stamped 7MS0, is a maxx performance helix, out of their '00 700 sx-r clutch kit....maybe a 48/42 or something?

bender pipes make power bt. 83-8800 ( 3 h.p. diff. within 500 rpm's ). i run mine 85-8600. your big problem is the gearing. w/ 8 tooth @ 8600 @ 1:1 you are geared for 93 mph. 112 mph would = 17% overdrive. yamaha clutches come cut w/ 5% o.d.??????
