03 viper plugs... Help

Ok just picked up a 03 viper with 4000 miles took it for a ride last night on new plugs the plugs i took out were a dark brown but i wanted new plugs i put 3 new br9es plugs in her and went for a five miles ride out in the country i rode it pretty hard had it up to 100mph a few times and wide open across the yard before i shut it down.. Ok heres the problem i checked the plugs and they are white on the porcelin and have a lil dark on the outside thread metal ring... i'm like oh no all three are the same color and it ran great and still does.. why are these so lean this thing is stock stock stock i'm about 500 feet above sea level and it was about 13 degrees last night... the only thing i changed was i turned the carb heat on last night and the guy i got it from had never ever used the carb heat ... would this make it lean?? Where should i start lookin ??? Thanks :o|
 
yeah i dont dare to open it up i have gone past 75 and i checked theme last sat. does it make a diff with the carb heat on? i dont run mine with it on
 
Carb heat will richen up your jetting. It takes some miles to color a new plug. How far did you ride. Maxdlx
 
you cant read new plugs like max said,5 miles is still not enough,put your old ones back in. then check..
 
Ok so hears the deal i rode about 30 miles after i cleaned the carbs myself and the plugs are still white with some dark color around the metal rings the threads are on... my oil pump cable is set at 20mm of play... I'm lost here of what to try now the thing runs great and all my carb jets are set to factory size.. Any help would be great..
 
I am guessing that you are simply seeing new plug white and not lean white. It takes a Viper a while to color a plug.

For peace of mind, I would put the old plugs back in, and do plug chop testing at various throttle positions. (run for 1/4 mile at same throttle position and hit the kill switch without letting go of the throttle)

New plugs will not make it go lean.

Ok thanks for the info but i dont have the old plugs they were left on the trailor and now are along the road somewhere LOL but maybe i'm just pairanode of hurting the motor what should i do run it another 30 miles and check the plugs or what i'm completely lost.. Thanks
 
They won't even color much at 30 miles, but you should be able to see some signs. Do they look new, or colored white? Check the ground electrode for color. If it is still new looking then you should be ok. I would also check your piston wash.

They have some color around the ring the threads are on and a lil brown on just one side of the porcelin.. How do i check my piston wash?? Thanks
 
Use a benda light (or equivalent) and look at the top of your pistons through the plug holes. You will need to rotate the crank (turn the clutch) to bring each piston in turn to the bottom. You should see 'washed' clean areas the size of a pencil eraser or a fingernail at the transfer ports. Look in the Tech Pages as I believe there is a good write-up on this.

What does the ground electrode look like?
