Getting through Duluth on Snowmobile

There's a way around/through Duluth by snowmobile but it is a roundabout one -- due to some special interest groups around here who would rather ban snowmobiles. But here is how you can get from the Munger Trail to the North Shore Snowmobile Trail, which goes from Duluth to Grand Marais.

There is a trail corridor # 47 ("Hermantown Trail") which you can pick up near Proctor, MN, off of the Munger Trail. Trail # 47 heads north, paralleling the Hwy 2 at times and then the Midway Road, but veers in a northeasterly direction from Midway Road just after the Arrowhead Road. Take that trail up to the Martin Road. From there, you have 2 choices:

Option #1 There is a marked trail that heads due East, past the Runway Bar and Grill. Then keep heading east. This is the more popular route and closest route, but I have not taken it yet this year and I cannot speak to it's condition. But this trail will parallel the Martin Road due east and hook up with Trail Corridor #60, which is the Northshore trail. I can update this thread in a week or so, as I have a ride planned that way then. About 120 miles or so to Grand Marais.

Option # 2 is the same up to Martin Road. But from there, go North and continue on #47 and pick up trail # 51 at the Blue Max, trail # 51 is also the Reservoir Lakes Trail. Take #51 due South East until it intersects Trail #60 (North Shore Trail). Then head East for about 100 miles and you'll be in Grand Marais!

Best of luck!!

What he said^^^^^the first option is a lot faster then the second but when it parallels martin for about 5 miles it can be really rough. You also have to take peoples back yards :o| . If I was out for a nice ride, I wouldn't go that way.......I can not speak of the condition either.
