So I just put a new cylinder, piston and rings on my 98 vmax 500, clutch side. After I got everyhting together it started and ran perfect on the 4th pull. Warmed it up and checked everything over, other than a slight coolant leak at the thermostat housing hose, everthing looked good. Let it sit over night, retorqued the head studs and started it to tool around the yard and make sure it wasn't leaking anything. Looks good.
We take off for a ride to, the wife on the 500. Stop every couple miles at first to look things over.
All is well until we stop for fuel about 9 miles from home. When trying to start it to laeve the gas station it won't fire up. Finaly got it running by choking it, it would not idle with out the choke on.
So carburator gurus what changed and how do adust it to fix it?
Thanks for the input.

sounds like the fuel pump or filter to me or maybe the pilot circuit of the carb is obstructed. Im leaning towards fuel pump or filter, being that it happend right after a fill up.
It started and ran fine but I had to use the choke when it was warm, it ran fine above 2500 rpms all the way home or for another 20 miles.
Carbs are or where sparkling clean, maybe Ipicked up something out the tank, I do need to check the fuel filter, it original.

what ever is going on is proberly what caused it to go down has to be in carbs even if they look clean dismantle and soak jets blow out completly

You have something plugging the pilot circuit in the carbs, if it runs fine above 2500 rpms then it probably is not a fuel pump or fuel filter issue, although it wouldn't be that tough to check the pump.
Pilot jets are plugged, you need to take them out to look through them. Can't do it in the carbs. Maxdlx
