Picked up a 87 exciter last weekend in a million pieces, put it all together wed, when cleaning the carbs I noticed it had 350 mains and 42.5 pilots, didn't pay any attention to the needle setting, obviously it runs fat as hell, anyways, it has twin psi pipes, and a giant hole in the air box (someone intentionally cut it), and a comet exp 108 clutch (soft clutching, engages at 3200 rpm), I ran it all weekend, starts right up and runs, but the plugs are dark, where would a good spot to start leaning this thing out be? I don't know if its the stock bore or if anything else has been done to it, I was planning on starting out at 300 and working my way down to be on the safe side, do I have to worry about the pilot jet at all? And where should the needle be?

Oh and I don't think the carbs are off an 87, they're not butterflys but the heated round slides with the tors plug (unhooked) , and the powerjet
