Does anyone know if the late 80's Exciter have the same ski width as the Phazer II? I'm curious about the handling characteristics of the two.

I think that the Phazer 2 skis are wider then the Exciter of the 80s. I think that the only difference in handling you will find is that you will have more floatation in the deep snow. The handling should be close if anything better. I am in the middle of replacing my skis on my phazer. I went to royal distributing and they have composite skis. Good luck.

I'm actually looking for the space between the ski's, not the width of the actual ski. I know from phazer I to phazer II that they increased the width of the stance, but i'm curious if the late 90's exciter has the same ski stance as the phazer II.

I do think that the width is the same between them. The changes between the skis were the rubber piece under the pogos. Later they made it larger and by making it larger they had to change the holding bracket for the rubber. I could be wrong but I was talking to a yamaha dealer about it. He says that the model numbers are different due to any changes to the skis no matter how small. In this case the small bracket for the rubber. The rubber is there to keep the skis from stabbing downwards in the snow when you hit a drift or do a jump. I think its 72mm. If you get a ski that is larger then the knuckle its to go into you can modify it by using washers as spacers. Hope this helps. Good luck
