Hey All,
I just took the carbs out of my Dad's 98 Venture 700 and cleaned them all up. My question is I got everything back together and was wondering about how long it should take to fill the bowls and prime the system? It's got electric start so taht beats the pullin'.

Thanks
Scott

I just read this trick a couple of weeks ago on here, and used it after cleaning the carbs on my aunt's sled. Simply remove the belt and turn the primary for a while, makes the fuel pump fill the bowls. Aunt's sled sputtered on the first pull, and stayed running on the second pull. Never yanking 30 times on my sled after storage again! Sweet.

A workout

Just cleaned the carbs on my 94 vmax 600. It was -15 yesterday morning and let me tell you...I GOT A WORKOUT!!! Fired on the 32nd pull and stayed running.

Wow. Mix a little gas and oil in a jar, pull the plugs and pour a table spoon down each hole. Reinstall plugs and start sled. It will run for a second and then probably die on you, but that short run has put fuel in the carebs for you. Start sled as you normally would. Shouldn't take from then 3 pulls. If you does, repeat.

probably a dumb question, but does it matter if you turn it CW or CCW?

I just pressurize the fuel tank by blowing in the vent line and capping it with an old plug. It only takes about three or four pulls then.

Simple as hell aint it stein. Been doing this for years. Never have to pull a Yamaha more than three times to get it started. Seems most like doing it the hard way though. I guess I shouldn't care.

Bout 40 times,,,, pull plugs and crank 20 times, to save your back.........

I love electric to....still don't want to strain the starter or battery. Take all the plugs out. Put some premix in each cylinder put plugs in starts so easy.

THANKS - I'll try that. Looks like I pickled my engine a little too well last year. I'm up to 100+ pulls and the premix in the holes and still nothing except a sore shoulder that last two days. I'll try the vent line trick and try again. If it doesn't go that way its back to pullin the carbs - AGAIN!

isn't the vent line tucked away by your knee and what exactly are you capping?... we use the dump into the cylinders but I'm sick of that too... tj
