I am looking to upgrade my son's sled. He currently is riding a Phazer II long track. He is still wanting to stay with a 136" track. He really doesn't care for the size of the SX, Viper SRX ect. I want to stay with a Yamaha for durabilitly. I would like him to have a 600 SX MM. The one item he does not like on my 99 SX is the seat size. The extra padding on the tunnel specifically, does the Mountain Max have the same types of seats as the VIpers, SRX's?

I think the MM have less foam and they are smooth if you know what I mean, I saw one on craigslist MN today an 02 MM 600 for only 2200, I tought it was a fair price.....NICK

What type of riding do you do mostly? If your in the off trail deep stuff I would stick with the Phazer II, add a pipe, and maybe install a Polaris Xtra 10 136" skid and some Vmax pogos up front for a better ride. If you run more trails then get a Regular SX-R / Viper and install a 136" kit on it. I'm 180# and I actually Prefer my Old Phazer II for off trail boondocking so much that I'm looking for a Phazer II LT or turning mine into a 144" phazer. Its SO much lighter and easier to maneuver than my SX-R in the powder/woods.

We ride alot of trails, and off trial boon docking, ie; two tracks, powder fields, ditch banks. Whenever we are trail riding and a powder field comes up, he is in it, doesn't matter how deep he just dives in. I have seen that Phazer running with only the windscreen showing, it just keeps going. I too thought about piping it but do not like the loud sound, We were going to widen the front and put in the XTC spring, shock combination. The machine he wants is a Ski Doo 440 MXZX. I really do not want to switch brands though.

What kind of mxz? a zx chassis or a rev? Both are good sleds, but revs don't take even light hits well.
I know you want to stick with yamaha, but if he is the one that rides it, and another sled brand would suit him better, you might want to go that route.

Another decent option would be one of the Mountain Lites. Come in a 136", same Phazer motor, and trailing arm suspension. My aunt still rides hers that they bought new in 2000 and loves it. They put an 1-1/2 paddle on it. They are still pretty light, bullet proof motor, ride is way better than my Viper. Her only complaint is the top end speed is only about 65mph due to gearing down for the 1-1/2 X 136", but it gets around off the trail pretty good.
