i went on a ride last night and the temp was around -5 celcius. the viper was running fine at the start and then it felt like i was dragging an anchor. when i got back i noticed that my clutches were almost too hot to touch so im wondering why this would be happening all of the sudden. i have added heel clickers and am currently waiting on the green yamaha secondary spring to come in a the dealer. any ideas as to what would be happening. the track is not sticking and everything else seems to be good so i am assuming that it is all to do with the clutches.

Just a stab in the dark here..have you tried lifting up the back end and try and turn the track manually?...I'm sure it probably is the clutches like you mentioned...but when I pulled my sled out this year I had 4 seized idler wheels...in your case it could be Chaincase, Bearings, brake clamped on?...ya never no...
Good luck
