hey guys went out for a ride lastnight. sled was running great. sled started to bog and miss at 6000 rpm plus. i pulled over and wait for my buddies to get turned around and muffler protector where the one pipe sits on it the rubber started on fire. got the fire out cooled down the sled pulled the plugs. nothing on the plugs and slightly black. started back up to back to a road ran grat for about a minute and started to bog. baby it to the road. got it home took the carbs off and check them and the filters in the carbs. filter looks clean in the tank. check tank vent ok. the reeds are still all there. any ideas.
wow thats a new one ...are you sure nothing made a nest and is holding the heat in there? or mabe your carbs are too rich causing excess fuel to build up in the pipe and burning in the pipe ?
definitly burning lean, fuel is starved, why ???????
The bog you describe would lead me to believe that you have a lean air fuel mixture. I say lean because you also describe heat. Lean mixtures cause heat, it will burn down your pistonies if you keep riding it.
If you have a stock sled, no bore kits and the like, clean the carburators and make sure your carbs are set to stock settings. Also if you are running the engine in very cold dense air like -20 c you might need to set the carbs a little rich.
don't ride that thing anymore untill you sort it out, you'll melt the engine.

I would pull the pipes and make sure nothing is in there and then like described above check to see what carbs look like......it is not worth burning her down!!!!!

hey guys. check the carbs are clean. check the filter in the tank. check tank vent. check muffler and pipes. check compression 140psi across the board. and it was just the rubber on the muffler where the pipe sits on it that burnt. everthing seems ok. put her back together. took it out for a ride. put a 100kms on ran fine. looked a the plugs slightly black. took it out again put 200kms it starts to lay over around 6000rpm. mades a sucting sound. but one touch of the throttle to speed up it runs fine. 6500rpm+ no problems runs great. plugs are coming out the colour of a box or alittle darker. any ideas?

it seems to bog a 6000rpm. and make a sucking sound. crack the throttle comes right out of it. seems like it wants to die. doesn't do it 6500rpm+
