Just came back from riding 100 miles and I have bunrt my thumb from the warmers. I don't turn them down because if I do my hands will freeze.
Has anyone ever tried to put the thumb warmer on it's own rheostat?

You need to look at the wiring for the hand warmer on a 2001 vmax, SRX, or sxr as yamaha did jsut what you are asking. All I need is the black sticker forthe ignition switch side before I convert my sled. T

by next Friday, forcast call for plus 2 C. I probably will go for a ride. Pretty crappy snow conditions anyways, can't even ride the Red this year because it is so rough with ice jambing. Almost lost the SRX in the Red about 3 weeks ago when I hit some powder snow and then there was slush and water.I pinned it to the boards to get out of that one.I somehow turned around and nailed it thru that again and back home again. There are almost no tracks on the Red this year.It should be tracks from one side to the next as in a normal year. Only put on about 500 miles this season, way below what I usually do.Hey at least I am saving $$$ on oil and gas.Last weekend was great at least temp wise,so this weekend will be probably around 0C.
My Viper (2002)has two seperate controls. Just wondering if the stator can handle this extra rheostat.Sxr700Bandit said:You need to look at the wiring for the hand warmer on a 2001 vmax, SRX, or sxr as yamaha did jsut what you are asking. From what I understand they break the positive lead into two and run the two rheostats to operate the grips and thumb lever seperately. Also from my understanding a rheostat only limits the output power to the item that you are trying to power and doesnt consume it, but I am no expert at electronics. Hopefully someone will chime in and correct me if I'm wrong.

I would love to convert mine to a two dial system... last week, riding in -teens, needed the grips maxed, but my fkn thumb could hardly touch the flipper.
Bad design, glad yamaha fixed it, should have offered a retro fit kit.

I have an extra rheostat from my 02 Viper. Will that work on the 97?
It should
