HEY too all you yamaha guy's and girl's Note if you deside too take a trip in ontario this winter make sure you run our stock exhaust on our sled the police are cracking down this year Bigtime.NO Aftermarket can's our loud pipe's.Has too look stock and sound stock.I thought i'd warn you's ahead a time.Drive safe and have fun.

If you read the Ontario snowmobile motorized vehicle act section 18.1....I dont think they have a leg to stand on in court. The law is very vage and does not say you can't run pipes or cans...but states that you have to have a working exhaust and no Hollywood mufflers...well Holywood is a brand name of mufflers...I would go to court if I was ticketed.

Well I have not been handed a ticket yet with my piped V-max for the 4 years I have had it! knock on wood and it a bit loud! thats here in Southern Ontario

All of the modern sleds on the trail are plenty powerfull enough with the stock exhaust. Just leave the OEM mufflers in tact, do not drill out any baffles to make it louder. Why??? With trail closers happening all over the country, don't let a loud sled be the one who made the property owner say" Thats it! Close it!" People run all night witch is fine but not if you have loud exhaust.

If you look at the topic this is for Ontario Canada and not Michigan..I can understand your point somewhat...but my bender piped sxr is not even as loud as some stock AC or POO's....why should I be fined because I installed Bender pipes....I DONT THINK SO. But a stock Harley which is much loudeer then my sled can run up and down the streets at night and there is nothing we can say becasuse..and I quote "Harley's are just loud". Or the guy with his rebuilt 1971 454 with headers....but its a classic...why pick on snowmobilers...and alswagg our trails here in Northern Ontario are mostly deep in the forest where we can not be heard by residence.

If you ride in Northbay ont area this is where there checking under the hoods too see what you are runinng for exhaust my nefew has been stop twice this year with in a week.I do agree with yamyrider with those Harley's they are loud and why does't the police do anything to them.

Harleys are not loud from the factory. The loud ones have drag pipes which basically have no baffles at all. I really want there to be a law for bikes that pipes can't be over like 100db for street use.

I used to live right across from Suburban HD in Thiensville and the parties they throw got to be down right noisy when they all had drag pipes on.

I love the sound of a motor that is piped, but drag piped HD's now just piss me off.

Yeah, I have aftermarket pipes on my TL, but it is under 100db.

Getting back to sleds, The newer pipes are much quieter than the older versions of aftermarket pipes. The pipe companies did a good job with the nosie levels, and getting more power from the sleds.

H-D's (or road bikes in general) aren't at the mercy of land owner's GENEROSITY. I'm not arguing about the double standard, but loud pipes close trails, period.

IMHO, the factories do a better job than the aftermarket squeezing out power because they have Db standards to meet or else it can't be sold. Agreed that the aftermarket has gotten a lot better (the SLPs on my XCR were very quiet), but they did help with the misconception that if it's louder, it must be faster.

Frankly, IMHO, it isn't so much the loud pipes or cans (bikes or sleds) it's A$$-HOLES that don't give a rip about others. Sleds get somewhat of a pass by me because you aren't rolling until 3k-5k rpm so it's difficult to idle through town (except for those guys that can't get anywhere without blipping the throttle hundereds of times).

Bikes really have no excuse 'cause they can near idle thier way to speed. My neighbor does this on a regular basis when riding his bike to work. My guess is that he shifts up before the tach reaches 1500 until he reaches high gear. He has drag pipes on his H-D but the joker down the street also has open pipes on his Aprilia so just like firearms, it ain't the product, it's the user (or more corrctly - abuser).

Good points mofo...

I know if I turned my street baffles into race baffles on my bike I would piss off a lot of folks. As it is, it still sets off car alarms. I do however keep it quiet if I am in neighborhoods.

I personally live 200 yards from a snowmobile trail, built AFTER I bought my house. I love the quick access to the trail but the A-holes with Loud Pipes and Can piss me off when they wake me up a 3am! I can barely hear a stock sled from my bedroom even when they go WOT (there is a 1/2 mile straight stretch just past my house) but Pipe sleds sound like they just ran past my bedroom window.

I was stopped in North Bay last year to check for trail pass (on the old train bed 101D).

I asked the cops if my sled was too loud, and they said the fact I had OEM pipes is what made mine OK. I ran a dynport at the time, and the cop admitted "Jesis, that sounds awesome"....there was 1 OPP and 1 city cop

Maybe this year is different, but I agree that some are just WAY too loud

I mean, come on!! that doesnt sound good

well mine say YAMAHA stamped right on them...some of the cops, specially northern ones are sled heads like the rest of us, and are very knowledgable

I was actually happy to see police presence, so many people say F'it to buying passes, and the rest of us legal riders have to pay so, im glad they nab tresspassers
