Stud Torn Out, Track Trashed???

We're getting blasted with snow up here in LG NY and I'm hesitant to ride... Noticed on Sunday while loading my sled up that I was missing a stud. No other problems, track is in pretty good condition and all the other studs are there. It tore out ripping 3 sides of a square leaving a flap in the outside portion of the track. No big deal or is my track trashed? Leave it? Cut it out? Use some of that Billy Mays mighty putty from the 2am infomercials?

If it were I would cut the flap so it does not damage the front heat exchanger. I have not ever done this but I would try this before replaceing. I would try to then locate a replacement as soon as money allows. good luck Al

cut the flap & go riding. done that many times. track will be fine, just a battle scar.

My track that I just took out had 9 missing studs like that. I would have ridden it through the rest of the year, but I had some unexpected money, and also needed to repair my front heat exchanger. So I say ride it few more years, just make sure you inspect it often. Not that hard to flip it on it's side and give it quick visual.

Cut the flap to avoid damage to the HX and ride it. My old XCR did the same but I didn't catch in time (took out the front HX). Replaced the HX and rode the rest of the season. Also, I wouldn't spin it at top speed for too long as I've seen two tracks with simular damage come apart at max speed. One of them I was losing to (500 Indy vs. sprayed Formula 521) and I had to duck to keep from getting wacked by track and tail light shrapnal.

Of course if you're in the lead it ain't so bad but colateral damage can be significant and both guys had thier hands full getting them whoa'd.

i say go it the billy mays mighty putty ,,,you can mold shape and sand it to make it look like it was never there ,,no run it like it is just trim off anything that will beat while track spins

Thanks for sharing your experience gents. There is a small chance I can afford one by the end of Feb, but I will probably wait to swap it over the summer. My local Yamaha wants $600+ for OEM track + $265 to change it, add studs to that and it's over $1k. I saw I can get a camoplast tracks online for $380 to $450, is changing it that difficult or should I pay the $265?

not hard to change ...remove chain case cover gears,and bolts thet hold case to tunnel about 2 inches ...speedo drive on opposite side ..and set screws that hold bearing in ..and pull drive axle..if you watch someonr do it you will kick your self in the *** for paying 260 to have the stealer do it

Rich Motorsports will get you a great track for a lot less than that. Tracks are pretty easy to change if you are used to working on stuff a little. Or find someone close by who will do it for a song.
