Well, my back is killing me so time to start looking at replacing the skid on my 02 Viper. I ride trails in VT and on the groomed trails, the no-action is fine...but by the end of the weekend, its go slow time with all the bumps. I ride pretty agressive and weigh 200lbs if that makes any difference.

Read lots of stuff on M10, but what about the Polaris IQ...any benefits here? Longer travel at 13.9", not much info on installation. Would it ride better?

Or has this topic been covered and where to look.
Thanks for any advice....Ed

There has been a ton of conversations on here in the last couple years....

It mostly boils down to a couple things...

Which skid you can get cheap...

What type of riding you looking to set up for...

The M10, you loose some top end according to some...

I have an edge skid in my Viper...I at times ride very hard... and the skid takes the punishment.... time for a shock rebuild though..

If you search the forumns by using the skid design, you will find many hours of reading.....

Good luck, and enjoy.

I have noticed some top end loss with the M-10 but then I went to 8 tooth drivers at the same time so which was the cause I'm not sure. I love the ride of mine but never rode the Edge skid. All I can ay is it was a night and day difference to me when I converted mine last year. Good luck with your decision.

Just be carefull comparing travel numbers (inches). Everyone seems to measure at a different point. Some measure rear axle travel. Some measure the rear bumper travel. And some measure the distance between the rear torque arm and the bump stop on the rear. I've haven't riden much of the new stuff, but I have riden Xtra 10 and 12, Proaction, Monoshock, and M10 (along with the "no travel" sleds before the long travel revolution). I find I'm always comparing everything else to the M10. The ride quality benefit of an M10 outweighs its drawbacks: less weight transfer (but keeps skis on ground) and slight top speed loss (I never really noticed).

Thedge and pro x are close to the same, they pro x has more adjustability, and is way beefier. The IQ skid is also good. I am very satisfied with my pro x. Maxdlx

I had a short period of time when i had two Polaris Edge 800s before going back to all Yamahas..I had one with the M-10 and one with the stock Edge skid. There is no comparison to the ride of a M-10... Edge skid is good, but an M-10 is Excellent....Jeff Wurl

An Edge skid in a Polaris doesn't compare to an M10 in the same sled. My buddy rode an 02 136'ed 700XCSP with the Edge skid. Riding in a group of 4, my 01 ZX800 M10, 02 Renegade M10, and an 02 Viper M10, he could never take the pounding on the trails and finally broke down and shoved an M10 under his as well. While an Edge suspension in a Viper is probably an improvement over the stock suspension anyone who thinks it compares to an M10 is delusional.
An M10's drawbacks are:
Poor weight transfer, so you won't win a lot of drag races running equal sleds
Lost of some top end speed, so if you're a lake racer it may not be for you.
But if you ride some rough trail getting to the lake, you'd probably be there and across it before the fellow on the stock suspension got there! And they say you can regain a lot of the top end with 8" wheel kit.
I have tried a lot of different machines and nothing compares to an M10.

I do know the M10 is advertised as 10.1 "actual" inches of travel. Whatever they are claiming or wherever they are measuring I don't know but I can contest... I am 285LBS and there is NO comparison to the M10 and stock NO action !!! Once these skids are setup correctly they ride awesome, period !

I have a lead on a Fusion 600HO IQ skid w 1000 miles. It has a Fox zero pro PSS in the rear and Ryde FX in the front (both are air shocks). Any opinions on performance of this skid in my viper or stick to tried and true M10? I would still have to figure out mounting locations.
Thanks....
