Hey Guys,

Well I had my 01 SRX 700 out for the second time and I have a question. Well the first time out I did the math for oil consumption to be about 55:1( running hard). Today with out correcting for a little lean, (after gasing up I did the math and forgot my tools), I went out for about 70 miles and I only use 8 oz. of amsoil (not sure on how much gas I used yet, maybe 5-6 gallons). My question is does that seem ok, I did take my wife out, she's a new rider so it was a very slow ride, not on the throttle very much for me. Does this sled not use much oil with the throttle cracked versus hammering on it. I bleed the oil pump, checked idle, throttle adjustment, and oil pump setting and all are @ factory spec. Any input would be awsome. For my next ride I did adjust the oil pump setting to 20mm.

Thanks

2.5 oz of oil per gallon of gas would be close to right. Yours seems to be running a bit light like mine is. Premix some oil in the tank until you get it right. I think Damon has a good write up on setting the oil cable. Sounds like you are on the right track.

55:1 in SRX is on the lean side,i just wouldn't sleep good at night,,re-adjust and try to get it 48-50:1 at most..remember pump feeds crank bearings too.

i am going thru a quart eve3ry two hundred miles on yamalube
how much gas did you burn in that 200??? thats what you need to know not the mileage.

daman could you give me your method of oil to gas ratio, i think i need to go back to 6th grade to get some help. Thanks

Well from my second grade text book..... 128 US ounces in a gallon...so...

40:1 mix = 128/40=3.2 oz. oil per gallon
50:1 mix = 128/50=2.56 oz. oil per gallon.

So if you use 1 qt (32 oz) of oil for 10 gallons of gas you would be at a 40:1..

More confusion...

this is for a 12 gal tank

1 gal = 128 oz. 1 qt = 32 oz.
12 gal = 1536 oz

If you want 50:1, then 1536/50 = 31. You should burn 31 oz of oil per 1536 oz (12 gal) of gas.

31/32 = .9 -- 31 oz = 90% of a quart.

If you burn exactly 1 quart of oil per tank of gas, you're running 48:1 fuel ratio. (1536/32 = 48 ) 48:1, almost 50:1, real close.

i would shoot for 1 to 1 1/4 qt per tank in a viper.

Checked my oil consumption today and it doesn't look good.I used 16 oz and went 108 miles.I checked the oil cable and it was set at 7/8s of an inch which is .875 which is 22.25mm. Stock setting for my viper is 20.5mm. I set it back down to .807 which is 20.5 and will check the oil next weekend. When I checked the plug they were a light brown color.Does this sound right. I had no ruler's in mm.

how much gas did you use in that 108 miles??? always need the gals burnt not miles..

sounds lean,,i'd do 19.5-20mm

Just hate to see anything happen i'ts just oil,i'd try it and see,can always
cut back re-tune if it's to rich,it's easy to do..
