I am thinking of installing the bender triples on my machine but I am unsure if I could handle the clutch work. I have never done clutch work and don't know what to expect. Can anyone point me in the right direction.

89L weights....2.4 gram rivet.....14.5 mm rollers.....g-p-g primary spring...51/45 helix..stock green secondary at 60 degree wrap. Been der dun it more times then I can count!!!!!

Are you worried about how to install the parts? That's the fun part! Almost as fun as fine tuning your sled to whoop up on your buddies...hehe. When you get ready to do it, post and we'll walk ya through.

VMAXJohn, yes I am worried about installing the parts. I have done reed spacers. head gasket mod, 144 studs, 8"carbides and all NTE bearinds.
I think the triple pipes with the clutching is the one thing missing to sneak up on my buds and make them wonder.

All you need for this operation are
1) clutch puller
2)sockets...8-10-12-14mm
3)8mm wrench
3)small allen wrench
The 1st time you change clutching may take you 1-2 hours. After that it can be done in 1/2 hour if you take your time.

Turk, you are so well endowed....with tools!
I don't have a puller, but that doesn't slow me down, it just adds another step.
If you use 2 8mm wrenches, you can change your weights on the trail if you have to. Pull the roller out of the way first, and then get to the weight, simple! If you've got set screws for the roller pins, you'll need a small allen for that...not sure the size, hehe.
There are plastic washers on the rollers and the weights, they're different sizes so you can't confuse them. IT's easy to drop them down into the clutch when you pull the roller or weight, but easily found by rolling the clutch over by hand (make sure the kill switch is off).
Most stock springs are easily compressable with your hand, making the spring doable without pulling the clutch or using the grunt tool (not applicable to heel clickers!)
If you lived close by, I'd say come over and we'd do it in a half hour! Love to do that, lotsa fun, hehe. Good luck!

It's not as easy to explain on a computer.
Primary clutch:
If you have all the goodies as turk listed above, putting them in is pretty easy and straight forward.Just replace old parts with new parts - don't lose the plastic washers on each side of the rollers/weights.Make sure you line up the " X 's " also- on the back of the cap and on the spider. Take the cap bolts off in small steps- don't take them out individually or you'll destroy the cap bushing-same for putting it back together.
You can do the above work with the clutch on or off the sled( its easier off
Secondary clutch: taking off/on nuts on helix same as primary cap bolts- in steps so you don't destroy the bushing. Showing how to do the secondary is easier than typing!! Just try to remember how it comes apart.
60 deg. Is #3 hole on helix- # 3 hole on sheave. Put spring in clutch in correct hole-take the helix and line up outer spring tab in correct hole-slightly press down on helix onto center shaft-twist helix clockwise untill holes on helix go down onto studs and you think you went @ 60 deg. Much easier done than to TYPE!!!
Note: when clutches are apart-Good time to clean/check all bushings and to scuff the sheave surface-both clutches.

Getting ready for the snow soon. We have had a few teases with 5cm to 7cm of snow then it melts.
Do you guys think it is nececary to triple pipe with the mods I have done.
Reed spacers, head gasket mod, extra idler wheel, 144 studs, 8" carbides and NTE formula bearings, B&B can.
Would clutching give me that little extra I am looking for. And would you suggest V Force Reeds.

With those couple motor mods, I'd bet a nickel you're over revving. You are probably wasting the extra power doing so, so yes, a little clutching can wake that sled up! Good luck.

Proper jetting with all the mods I listed in my last posting.
I ride only in Northern Ontario which is low altitude and the average temp
is -10C to -25C I think I have 148 in there now but I am not sure.
Gotta say I love this web site. The advice is great and talking with Yamaha die hards like I am is excellent.
