This problem has been eating me alive for a while. Last year I noticed plugs didn't look like usual. They were rich. I took the carbs back out and went over them again, as I have done at least once a year. The fuel milage also suffering all of a sudden. Changed any possible bearing in the skid, no change. Changed drive bearings a little better but not good yet. This past week I blew a hand warmer and its been down hill ever since. When I have been out for 20 min, it stumbles and just about dies at 6000, if you jab on it it will go but you gotta keep it wound out. I just went over the wiring, no rubs. I measured the stator according to the book and cold it seems to be fine. The coils are measuring a llittle funny. The primary resistance was good but the secondary didn't want to co-operate. Is it possible they are just getting weak. I have heard of the stator doing this but rarely. I also forgott to add that when sitting idling you can smell raw fuel and it leaves black in the snow! Any ideas would be appreciated.

One more thing, I want to know if my temp light is supposed to flash when I start the sled. It doesn't do this now but I know the 01 sxr does. I don't remember if it ever did. If it is supposed to is there a fix. Thanks a million

If you can smell fuel when its idling there is a problem in the carbs...check your choke cables and towers out, make sure they are seating all the way down when the choke is off. Check the throttle cables and make sure they arent frayed or hanging up at all. I had a problem similar to this with an arctic cat and it turned out to be the choke cables vibrated their way out too far.

Just a starting point...eliminate the cheap stuff first
