Hi guys I am helping a friend getting his 99 Vmax 600 triple deluxe run better for his kids. It engages at 4000 RPM as it should but the shift out was 10000 RPM way too high. I adjust the secondary to a 70 degree wrap and it now shifts at 9000RPM. Here is what I want to do. Lower the engagement to 3500 or lower and bring the shift RPM down at the same time with a different clutch spring. I am going to go over the chart and select one with less preload to get enagement down and one with less rate to get shift RPM down. Does this sound reasonable? I am thinking of ordering the b-s-b spring.

why don't you order some rivets and increase the tip weight to get the rpm's down. In my 600SXR I run 3.6 inner and 4.5 outer with stock primary spring.

I have battled an over rev problem in the past albeit not as significant as yours. I bought some tuning screws from hauck. They come in sets of three and you get 4.5g, 5.0g, 5.5g and 5.9g. It makes it ten times easier to swap out rivets. I think I have also seen a post by Turk suggesting tapping threads through the holes so you can simply screw in a small bolt for additional tuning options.
With the stock clutching, the thing should shift at 8500 RPM. What is the current clutch setup including gearing? Something is wrong if he is turning that high of RPM. How many miles are on it, could the movable primary sheave bushing be bad????

It has stock 23/39 gearing. The problem is I don't have time to try changing rivets out I am too busy with my own sleds. I just want to try a quick spring change for them now and perhaps in the off season I'll have a closer look at the clutches. His girls are just driving it around a field and a lower engagement would be better for them. I don't know why stock engagement on a touring sled would be 4000 anyway. Thanks for the input.

Thanks for the tuning rivet advice - they sound great for changing weight. I am new to this style secondary, my Vmax4's have the older style, how to I get a 60 degree wrap? I am at holes 1 - 6 now for a 70 degree wrap.
Thanks
