I'm planning on installing a new lower gear in my SX700R, increasing by one tooth. I know that my existing chain length is still good to use. Is it adviseable to replace the chain from a wear standpoint on a sled with 2300 miles? Last time I changed the gearcase oil there was some filings on the dipstick magnet, but not much.

I just changed my gear at 6000 miles, used same chain. We'll see how it goes.

is your track studded?... a picked track is harder on chains as is jumping to the moon and landing with thumb on throttle

Just my 2¢... but since you're in there it sure wouldn't hurt. I have my sled all apart, just put new track, studs and drive bearings, I also went from a 23t gear on the top to a 22t and put on new chain, just to be safe. BTW 4000 miles in sled right now.
