I am in the middle of a swap from the P-Action to M10, and had to rotate the track drive to get my drill template to hook over the hexagon shaped shaft and line up in the tunnel. Since the skid was out, I used the secondary to turn the drive from under the hood. I notice that I can turn the secondary about 2-inches or so back and forth before the track drive turns at all. This sled has reverse, so I'm wondering if this is normal, or is my drive chain loose....

I remember reading about Viper chaincase failures, so I just want to be sure there's nothing wrong....I would just pull the chain case cover to look inside but the reverse and electric start set-up makes it a little more work....

Anyone know if I'm OK?

There is some slop with reverse....BUT...cleaning the chaincase and inspecting/adjusting the chain tension is all part of maintenance....Better to do it in the heated shop than on the side of a :brr trail....

One Note: The sled only has 1,600 easy (old guy) miles, and I've changed the chaincase oil twice (when I bought it in 2007 w/640 miles, and then last season). I was used to adjusting the chain tension on my old Vmax 600 twin, but I think the Viper has an automatic tensioner correct?

Negative. You need to actually adjust the bolt that protrudes from the front of the chaincase(near the oil dipstick). The bolt has a locking nut on it. Loosen the nut and hand tighten the bolt, then loosen 1/8 turn and then lock the nut down.

MAKE SURE YOU CHECK TH BOLT every once and awhile. Mine came out and caused some nice damage to the chain case.
:o|

I will check and make sure the tension is correct on the chain. Thx for the feedback !!!
