oil pump adjustment

i have an 90 xlv 540 fan that i'm getting ready to unload on a friend and i'm questioning the oil uasage, what is the procedure to adjust, also what is the procedure for setting the timing, why you ask i'm replacing the stator this weekend and it appears to be adjustable.

Down at the carb is the oil cable adjustment joint pull up the rubber cover
then pull on and up on the cable end as far as it goes then measure the gap #1, 22mm +/- 1mm is spec i do believe.

loosen lock nut 2# then turn adjusting ring 3# up or down to specifed gap.
