i drive a 1997 buick riviera 3.8 v6 blown. i heard about pully mods to make more boost, is it that easy to do? just get a smaller pulley on the supercharger to make more hp? how much more hp would i get? and at what point would i be overspinning the charger to where its not creating any power?

Yes you can put a smaller pully on and create more boost = more power.
However that also creates more heat.. and at some point the S/C is not efficient.. There is ways around all of those problems but with cost.

Reality is its a Riviera.... Its heavy and will take alot of effort and money to make it anywhere near as fast as some cars come stock. If its your daily driver then any mods will come at a price, usually reliablity.

If you want to go fast and like buicks try a Grand National,

yeah, throwing a smaller pulley on that roots charger will do a nice trick, but if you have 100k on it, you might as well take the heads off and throw new boost proof head gaskets on it.

It still is a fwd though, it's kind of pointless to be honest.

Yea i was just clarifying that the pully mod does actually do something, clearly it does, but i have about 150k on the car, other problems are probably going to arise soon enough.

Yeah, changing roots charger pulley out is a cheap trick to gain a noticeable HP and Tq gain.

On a 3.8 v6 T bird SC, the different pulleys would add like up to 30 hp. Pretty good for cheap, until you go though a pair of head gaskets.. I did that once... not fun...

So do you think i'm better off leaving well enough alone? after all i'd like to get a bike this spring and not a new motor for a car.

Those motors are very very solid. I know guys the are running 20+ pounds of boost all day long through them The L67 has a huge and i repeat huge aftermarket. Try these sites www.milzymotorsports.com, www.zzperformance.com, or www.intense-racing.com. The first one is owned by a guy named mike, he is a good guy to deal with. Tell him Joe from Grand Rapids MI sent ya. It's been awhile since i talked to him just remind him he left his car at my house a few years back when he spun a cam bearing. The second one is owned by a guy called zoomer. Lat time i knew he had a 800+hp grand prix. The third know their stuff but kind a$$holes from what i hear. You should have the 4t65e trans which is a pretty strong trans, but I would put a really good tranny cooler on it. You can actually make that thing fast as hell for a grand or two. What i would do is get a 2.7", 3", and a 3.5" pulleys, better headgaskets like mentioned b4, new rocker arms I think 1.5, intercooler, headers, and a CAI. Put that to it and you'll be hauling a$$.

Looking at Joesnow's comments show it can be done, but if I were you, I would save up for that bike. JMHO.....
Once you have a bike, a car is just a car, a cage, a 4 wheeled contraption to move your butt around in winter and in crap conditions or when you need to haul something bigger than what can fit in a backpack.

I was a big mustang guy. I have since sold both of my fox body 5.0's and own a jeep grand cherokee for the cage use.

I do however get that inkling and I put cars like a wrx in my perfect car list. You know, practical, and still fun ones. :)

I need to get past the speed governor tho, it only will do 107 on gps at 3300 rpm then it starts bouncing at that rpm, it redlines at around 6,000.

Running 20 psi of boost thru your stock engine wont last very long.
Yes there is aftemarket and people who dump thousand of $$ to make them go... But if you want a bike, It will already be twice as fast as the car, even faster depending on the bike.. Also its FWD, It will never be as fast as RWD or AWD..

haha, yea, i'm lookin at gettin an 07 cbr1000rr. Think i'll stick with saving up for that rather then risk burning down my car.
