I'm replacing pistons, rings and top end gasket on my 1999 V-max500SX.What does thinning the head gasket do?Will it do anything for a 500 TWIN?Is it as simple as just using the middle layer of the gasket?Do I use gasket spray? Is there any draw backs to this mod?...leeking gasket, head warping, change jetting?Sorry about all the questions guys,I just want to make sure.THANKS!!

why not just leave the gasket in-tact?...

my 99 500VMax has almost 10,000 Km (6200 miles) and is bone stock...never a problem.... I'm a firm believer of stock = reliability (with respect to performance mods)... read about the melt downs and you can see for yourself... my .02

It might wake it up a bit.

I've got nearly 3000 miles on my 600 after running the thinner gasket. Just run good fuel. I try to use premium when possible.

DO NOT USE SPI PISTONS!!!!!!!!!!!! i have had 2 major failures with them. just put new rings on your yamaha pistons and put it back together.
