im in the process of changing tracks,i have everything let go but can not get the chaincase pulled clear of the tunnel. My question is do i have to take the emergency brake assembley completly off? and if so how do you get the friggen thing off? im thinking it must be holding the case on....
If anyone can help me it would be great.

the parking brake is part of the chain case, all you gotta do is unhook that cables go to the parking brake, just pull out the little cotter pins that hold the cables on... Then you got to mess around with getting the Brake up and around the brake disc... we did it on my buddies 99srx 700, we had no problems.

The rotor tnds to stick to the sahft. You need to work it in and out or try it lightly pry on it. It will come. Maxdlx

thanks guys,i got it off..the rotor was stuck to the shaft. I've changed alot of tracks on other brands and this was quite a job compared to them....Not sure if i'll ever get it back together....lol

I,LL BE DOING MY SOON. HOPE ITS NOT A PAIN IN THE ***. I HAVE A HEAT EXCHANGER WITH A SLIGHT PUNCTURE FROM A CHISEL AND I BOUGHT A 9811 RACE TRACK THAT NEEDS TO BE CHANGED OUT. 3:16 (yammie tony)

A couple years ago my buddy and I both put ripsaws on our sleds. We worked together in his garage. Mine was 96 Vmxax 600, and hs was a 01 SX600R. I was done in 2 hours, and he didn't even have his chaincase out yet. It is a job, and there was not much room to work around the chaincase if remember....

Gotta love how the sides came off on those old Vmax's and made everything easy to reach.......

yea i believe i still have the stock track on my 01 srx700 with 196 studs, studs are all mint and the lugs are fresh still, but the track is ripping apart on the sides pretty good.
pretty decent for 5500 miles

may need a track this summer tho :o|

All i can say is go to church before you start..I'll be lucky if i don't land in Hell from all the cursing i did yesterday,it is a major Job,if i had off had help it would have been easier, the emergency brake cable is a pain to get off..im thinking im going to pull the whole mecanism off and leave it off,i never use it anyway. The description in the tech pages on track removal was helpful,i printed it off and too it to the garage with me.It's going to be a big job to get it all back together and try to remember where everything goes.
Does anyone know if the rear heat exchangers are the same from 98 to 01?
i have protectors from a 98 and im hoping they will work on my 01.

Old thread, but it might save me from just lighting my sled on fire.
The ebrake is killin me. I cant even back the bolt out far enough because the bolt holding the coolant line just spins in it's hole and it needs to come out for the ebrake bolt to clear. That means tearing into moldings, seat and tank just to see why the coolant bolt is spinning.
Hate to gut a sled just to replace a speedo bearing. :o|

Are you talking about the long bolt on the ebrake that goes through the springs and pads? I was able to push my coolant hose back just enough to slide it out after I unbolted it from the airbox. You may want to take a pic with a digital camera with it all together first. Those tension springs for the ebrake can be a little confusing when you put it back together.

I don't even pull the chaincase off, I take everything out of the chaincase and pull the drive shaft out, me and a buddy did 2 of them just after christmas. One on a 02 srx and on my 99, in and out no problem slick as crap. You have to bang the bearing and seal out of the bottom of the chaincase but it's far easier and faster then pulling the whole case off.
