Why are the '98-'99's richer on the mag and the later years richer on the PTO? Could I stagger the '98 jets like the '01's and be safe?

I think I read some where it was because the mag side ran hotter. Im probley wrong though.

most snowmobiles give the clutch side more fuel. Fuel help for cooling.

SoI should have no problem jetting the clutch side richer like the later years.
Why do you want to? Are you watching each cylinder for the right plug color and temp?

JMO:
One of the possible reasons the jetting stagger is different from the 98/99s to the 2000-2002s that may effect airflow:
- the 98 + 99s airbox came from the factory with the vertical airbox dividers in the lower part of the airbox but Yamaha did not install these in the 2000 - 2002 airboxes.
JM.02c:
I don't stagger my jetting on any of our tripples SXs + SRX[now that they are trail sleds only]. I jet the leanest cylinder for a safe reading on the plugs + piston wash then jet the the other 2 cylinders the same + forget about it.
Works for me!

I don't have the divider in my airbox. So I am looking for something for that. Thats why I was inquring. Still waiting for some safe ice to really be able to open her up safely. Was just looking for a jump off point.
