Hey.

lve put a new primary spring in my 1996 Vmax600, its like a new machine. The problem is the engagment seems harsh, like it comes in with a bang. The track tension is correct.

Any ideas? Thanks

The rolers that the flyweighs push on.If the bushings in them are shot the weighs will try to slide. Thay dont want to move but when they do thay move a lot. just compress the clutch and try to move the rolers up and down. If they have play in them they are shot. If they are you need to check the weighs and see if they are wore out from sliding.

harshness

The harsh engagement is from the 1/8 inch gap between the movable sheave of the primary and the belt. I had shims cut and placed them on the outside of the movable sheave. I think that Bender used to make a kit for that but I'm talking about 7 years ago

Thankyou for the imput everyone;

l checked the rollers and they move side to side on there shaft alittle, bit not up and down (sleds done 7000kmcould be time to rebuild the primary?)

l changed my belt, i had an old one on. The new one is 1.5mm thicker than the old one, now it just 'clicks' into engageing rather than banging.

My vmax4 just pulls away, it would be good to get the 600 running the same.

Do yamaha make a shim for this or is it the local friendly machine shop?

Thanks All
