My dads 94 VMAX 600 was running bad, spitting and sputtering, burning oil with lots of blue smoke. Plugs were loaded up with oil. I adjusted the oil pump to spec to no avail. I simply pinched off the oil injection output line temporarily and ran premix at 40:1 and it is running much better on a stand. But is this safe to do? Am I cutting off oil supply to another part of the engine in the process?

Adjust free play down somemore(leaner)easy to do,keep the pump.you can go to the end of spec or beyond it no problem.
Personally I would fix your problem and keep the oil pump. You may need a new pump, or have an issue in the fuel pump. However, in a pinch you can send the oil back to the oil tank as long as the fuel has oil in it.

I plan to replace the oil pump, but we were planning to run pre-mix this weekend because we won't have time to order it and replace it. The question I have is, I have just pinched off the oil tube with a small pair of vise grips ( yeah, I know what you're thinking but it's not permanent) where the tube comes out of the oil pump, is this ok? I also have the vise grips secured so they don't bounce off and get caught in the belt or something. Thanks!

if plan on getting a new pump go for it,probably burn that one up,but i think
if you adjust that one down i'd be fine, but whatever works for ya.

Just disconnect the control cable going to the oil pump. It will leave it at minimum mixture ratio. You can leave the vise grips on as it has a bypass circuit built in.

New oil pump is on it's way. I keep adjusting it down and it's still running oil rich. With pump pinched off it's fine while running premix at 40:1. Thanks for your help !
