We have several SX's, as well as an SXR and SRX. These sleds have quite a few miles on them, but compression is good and they are all good runners. If you let any of them set for a period of time, days, or weeks it takes 10-20 pulls on the rope to light them. If that is the case I'll usually dribble some gas down into the airbox. When warm it is usually one pull two at the most. Can it be that the gas in the float bowl has evaporated, or what do you suppose makes the first start so difficult, or it this fairly normal for these sleds? Any thoughts?

Boy it sounds like the bowls are empty and it takes you that many pulls to refill them. Could it be leaking out slowely? I don't think there would be much evaporation from inside the bowl.... have you had a chance to pull them off and take a peek at the rubber seal on the bowl drain plug?

hard start
I have same problem with 97 XTC 600 twin. Not quite so bad but 8 or 10 pulls after it sits any length of time. Hopefully someone can shed some light. Have an Sx and 3 pulls no matter how cold and 1 pull when warm. Thought maybe it was just the nature of the twin but maybe not by the sounds of your problems.
