Does anyone know where I can get an electric start kit for a "01 SX500 and how much they might cost - tired of pulling that cord.

I've bought two off of ebay. Just look up your kit number and keep an eye out. I think they are typically somewhere around $350 depending on the time of year and application.

Where would I look up my kit number for my '01 SX500 ? I noticed on the front right of the crankcase there are threaded holes for the starter but I don't understand how it engages the flywheel or clutch area ???

The ring gear bolts on the back of the clutch.

I think the PZ kit is very different. At least it was between my PZ and my sx700r. The kit you want is 8CR-W8180-15-KT. It comes with everything you need right down to the battery and loctite. Just set yup a search on ebay to watch daily for "yamaha start kit" and wait for yours to come by.
