My 97 VMax SX doesn't seem to like the OEM drive belts (89L) as the engine overrevs like crazy. Problem doesn't happen with aftermarket drive belts however; they only last for about 300-400 miles before they start slipping occassionally. Any suggestions on how I can get the OEM belt working properly?

your sled should be working the best with OEM belts,sounds like you have
clutching issues or center to center is off along with off set,check them
two then into your clutching(primary)different belts are made from different
composites so they will act different.

you should not be using that belt you should use the 8DN-17641-00 or 8DN-17641-01 and if the up-date clutch work done then use the 8CH-17641-00 it is a little softer comp
clean your clutches with HOT soapy water and rinse thourghly .the 97 sx wasnt made to run the 8dn as some people believe. it will really overrev your motor if you dont make a clutch adjustment! 89-L is fine to run with this sled . 8ch is a little better, (if you can find one)
