Problems with my SXr

I got to take it out today, WOW is it fast. 2000 SX600r.
I can't hook up on any surface, The track is full of trail studs and it is a really nice track.
I think maybe the suspension is set up for a much heavier rider. It doesn't ride hard at all though.
There is about a 1" gap at the top of the transfers. Is the gap too small?
Am I just too light for this sled (160#)?
I got out on the road and ran it up to about 80, backed out of the throttle for a driveway, jumped back into the throttle and the belt exploded!
It was a fairly new, Yamaha belt.
I got home and pulled the secondary thinking someone had it set up wrong. It seams to be set up stock and everything seams to be in good working order.
Any ideas?
 
If the belt was a OEM belt,hard to believe you could blow the belt.Maybe you didn't break it in the 50 miles or so required.You got to have other issues like clutchs are not aligned and center to center is off.I have never ever blown an OEM belt,and I ride my 600 SXR and SRX 700 hard.My 600 I always pinn the thing and my belts are great.Did blow a Ultimax belt once,it was crap.Found out my c to c was out almost 3/8 ".The OEM belts are a harder compund and rarely ever blow up.Dig into it and find the problem,because it will cost you $$ and will happen again and again and you may even destroy your clutches and damage your clutch side seal.
 
I guess I should get some clutch alignment tools. I'm sure the belt had at least 50 miles on it. This is what it looks like now:

I can't check the transfers right now, they are solid ice/snow. I'll have to put it in the garage for a while.
The other piece of plug holder came through an opening in the hood when the belt blew, I saw it but, couldn't find it.

I bought a max 2 belt for my Phazer a couple years ago, It did the same thing. It now still has the same belt that was on it when I bought it (Dayco max). I bought a new Yamaha belt then but, still haven't put it on. They replaced the max2 belt for shipping, it is my spare.
So you think it is a bad belt and not clutch alignment?

It was a brand new tripple plug holder I had just installed. DOH! It is completely destroyed. I did find the three plugs as well.
 
I really don't want to buy a new belt just to have this happen again. $66 from the local Yamaha dealer.
 
you need proper tools for the trade.A good clutch alignment tool is a must to have if you ride a sled.It may cost you around $150 for a decent one,don't buy cheap tools,it will then last you a life time.

This is the track that is in it. It should hook up. looks like a good track to me.

where were you riding at. I was out last night & my sled didn't hook at all on this fresh snow. It usually always hooks up but it was pretty slick last night. You need to get on some good snow before you try making adjustments.

I was thinking that too. The snow that we had yesterday wasn't providing anything to bite on. I did try to hook up on the old snow, that stuff is like soft ice. I didnt dig to bare ground but, Didn't get a good bite either. I think maybe I'm expecting too much. It excellerates QUICKLY. Even though the track is spinning.
 
Those studs do not appear to be sticking out past the lugs, and the stud closest to the camera looks to be in rough shape.... if they arent sticking past the lugs, you will not have good traction no matter how many studs you have.
 
The studs are a bit wore but, The majority of them have carbide sticking out. They are about 1/8 of an inch taller than the tallest "fingers", About 1/4" taller than the majority of the lugs.
I have a machined straight edge for automotive cylinder heads. I checked the clutch alignment with that. It doesn't work very well as it is not made for that but, The engine seems the be twisted so that the clutches are closer together then they should be. I found a tool that looks like it would work good, It is made specifically for that primary clutch. The company is Sno stuff and the tool is only $20. HPE wants $60 and change for the same tool (made by the same company). I haven't been able to find a center-to-center tool yet.

8vo you have a 1-1/4 connected cone track, I believe. ( same as mine. I had to snip the 1/4 nubs off for the studs to work otherwise I could not hook up. I studde it up the middle with 96 megabites clipped all the nubs, i left the outside nubs on, works awesome now in any conditions
 
you will never hook up with that track and those studs....just not enough stud penetration....I would get some screw in studs for the cones on the track....I had that track and put about 600 miles on it and sold it...I hated that track.
