What's up with these PZ 500s in the 99-00 model year? After 4,200 miles the mag side connecting rod broke on my sled and completely destroyed the crankcase. While parting this sled I've ran into not less than six other PZ500 owners where the exactly same thing happened. Mileage varies between 1,600-5,000. A bad batch of metal. Were all the 485cc like this?

I dont think all of the 485cc motors were like this, my 2001 has over 11000 kms or around 66-700 miles, as far as i know its never been apart either. I shouldn't have said anything though, with my luck that'll happen next time I turn the key. Hope not though.
my buddys 2000 500 did the exact same thing at 2500 miles ...toast!

Mine gernaded two weeks ago. The clutch side piston skirt broke, bending the rod and breaking the cylinder skirt in the process. All this happened at less than 20 MPH. The sled does have miles on it but the crank and other cylinder / piston are perfect !! WTF ? I have been trying to determine the cause of this for a few weeks now and am at a loss. When I find the parts to repair it I will but what happened to the bullet proof 485 I was use to ? I thought I had the best fan out there.

Mine grenaded at about 2500 miles last year.....That one's gone now. Problem solved.
