Just bought a 2002 SRX. As already mentioned it has an advant-edge roller secondary on it.
I am wondering if this was a FULL kit for my sled? The helix has a small "7" stamped. Does anyone know what angle this could be?
Primary clutch also has a SOLID ORANGE spring. Was this a kit? Who made a solid orange spring?
What do you guys recommend running with this secondary? Should I buy some primary weights that are adjustable such as heel clickers?
They have a 22 tooth upper gear. Should I go to a 23? Reason I ask is if this was an advant edge kit to work with a stock sled then it SHOULD probably have a 23 tooth gear? yes it is over revving right now w/3X3 wrap.
I cannot find a color on the secondary spring but it measures .207" Dia. Wire.
I very much appreciate help guys. I am looking for a very reliable trail setup thanks!

The pins that the rollers ride on have to be cleaned and checked for rust.A red spring is what they run.It could be a bender spring in the pri if it has a 3/8 shim under it.Usally red but they fade.
I would check the end cap bushing for wear and all the rollers and pins first before changing anything.Mark the sheave and run it hard and you will see if its shifting out fully.
10.000 km and it is time to rebuild these clutches. For proper performance.

Hey thanks for the reply.
I DID clean everything, I did NOT take the little rollers apart BUT I did work a little WD40 in. They turn just fine. The spacer was behing the spring which sure looks to be orange but it measured abotu .290"(7.3mm).

If every thing is working right it could be as easy as putting the gearing back to stock.
The sled might loose the over rev.New belt is a good start as well.

that's a bender primary spring w/ a 8mm alum. shim. what is full shift rpm??

It was shifting about 8700-8800 before I took out the 8mm shim. I also went from the sec spring that it had (I could not find a colour) to my silver spring to raise shift. It is now about 8600. still a little high.
I need to find out more info.

i'm lost. first you took out the shim to lower the rpm, then you changed the secondary spring to raise the rpm??? the secondary spring has to be painted. what is the color?? what was the full shift rpm before you made any changes??

If it was reving 8700-8800 before you did any changes, I would suggest to put the shim back in , the secondary spring that was in it back in and add one or two gram washer to the tip rivit. If it was reving 2-3 hunderd rpm high than the added weight to the tip will bring that down to 8500, that is where you want to be.
Hey guys,
I checked my roller helix and it is somewhat stamped on the back. It is HALF cutoff! It says either 47 or 49 I think by 37 or 39. This is my best guess. Should I go to a steeper angle helix?
Where can I even order a new helix as the advant-edge website no longer works?
Triple X, thanks for all the help but I can't pm you. It says your mailbox is full.

Mail box is cleared, try "SRXSPEC" Allan listed a few Advant-edge helix's on both two & 4 stroke classifieds.
I went back to pink secondary -spring. Kept the primary 8mm spacer OUT, and gave it 80degree wrap and the rpms are perfect. 84-8500. I just wish it had a more aggressive helix now.
Triple X, I triedto msg srxspec and it says he doesn't except pm's. Do you know him?

Try the 4-stroke side, you might get a hold of Allan there, he is also a sponsor on here try his web site, Ulmer Racing.
I can see taking the silver secondary spring out and putting in the pink to lower your shift out rpm BUT I am at a loss as to why the Bender spring shifts out like that without the spacer.
Where in Ontario do you live?

Hey triple,
I am in Walkerton, a little ways from ya.
The reason I took that spacer out from the spring is that the spring still measures almost 3.50 inches. If I am right, this is what a stocker spring measures.
Why would I want to squish the crap out of it with that shim then? My engagement is about 3800. That's when the sled actually moves. Which, for trailing is fine.
Far as I know, the primary is stock other than the spring which is very solid orange. 8Dn weights with gold rivets. I stuck a scale on the rollers and they look to be 14.5.
Now don't forget they have a 22tooth gear in it.
Anyway, it is working excellent right now. Had a smile of my face on the perfect trails lastnight. If we can get through the next two days without much rain then this wekeend will rock!

The Bender orange spring is a pre-98 spring which was made for the short cover clutch. The 98 SRX came with a longer clutch cover(where the spring sits) in order to use the short spring (orange) it has to be used with the shimm.
The shimm doesn't squish the crap out of it, all it dose (shimm) makes up the difference between the long spring.
Glad it is working fine, happy trails.
