Guys I just got my first sled this year.....Here is what is going on and hopefully someone here is nice enough to give me a hint of what I should do::

Just got an 02 SX Viper and took it to the hill last weekend. Did 310 miles but it wasn't running properly. I had to keep it 1/2 choke at all times to keep it from stalling out. It ran fine though on half choke. Idled a little rough at times but most of the time I was around 1800 rpms. I pulled the plugs and one cylinder was running rich while the other two were cardboard brown/tan. This was after I ran it on 1/2 choke. Cleaned everything in and out of the carbs. Got alot of crap out of there. I took it around there yard after it warmed up and runs off choke and everything. Adjusted the idle and got it tuned it but now after I hammer the throttle hard it comes down to 3500 rpms and "bounces" for about 5 seconds then runs down to 2000 rpms. I am thinking that the A/F mixture screw might be the culprit. I counted the # of turns and it was set at 2 so I put them back to 2 turns when I put the carb back. I think I remember someone saying to go 1.5 turns out. Any suggestions???????

...are you sure you got the carbs completely cleaned? How about the powervalves...did you pull them and clean? I believe 2 turns out is the ideal spot for the air screws.

I am pretty sure we got them clean. Took out the main jet, pilot jet, and Mixture screw. Soaked everything and blew out all the holes. I didn't get into the power valves though. Not sure I know what I am doing with those.

It is the fuel screws. you need to back them out some. Problem is you need to take the carbs off to do it. Maxdlx

x2, also at this point (more than 2 turns out) alot of guys recomend going up a pilot jet size, what were your pilot, and main sizes by the way, and needle location, guys will be able to help you more knowing these

Ok. When I get back I'll take them out to 2.5 turns????? Sound about right?

Are you sure you have no air leaks, thats a heck of a high idle hange, 2.5 out is pretty far shouldn't need that much. 1 7/8 is stock and 2 usally does the trick.

make sure your have 2mm of throttle play too like flatblack said.

10-4 guys. I'll try the idle first as that requires less labor. Thank you guys for the quick responses. Nice to know you can get help when you need it.
